Bennett comes from the suburbs just outside Richmond, Virginia, but attended college in Seattle at the University of Washington. He graduated with a degree in history, though he is currently most interested in researching themes found in James Baldwin's oeuvre and personal life. He can usually be found eating a sandwich in the Jardin du Luxembourg or soupe à l'oignon at a brasserie. He is determined to find the very best version of French onion soup in all of Paris.
