Tabara Sy

Tabara Sy received her undergraduate degree in 2022 from New York University College of Arts & Sciences in Social & Cultural Analysis with a concentration in Africana Studies and a minor in Journalism. As a Senegalese-American, she holds a keen interest in storytelling and memory through the forgotten voices of colonial and post-colonial West Africa. In the course of her time at HiLi, Tabara hopes to explore the literary resistance to French colonial rule, through the written and visual works of Ousmane Sembène and his commitment to reproducing the languages of real life, speaking to the raw experience of post-colonial West African society.

Outside of class, Tabara loves to spend time by any body of water, trying new tea blends and doing yoga!
