Tuition and Fellowships
The estimated tuition for 2023-24 is $33,932 per semester (Fall and Spring). The cost of tuition is the same for US citizens and international students.
In addition to tuition, HILI students are required to pay the one-time Columbia Document Fee ($105) at the start of the Fall semester. This fee provides lifetime access to transcript and enrollment certifications.* HILI students are also eligible for medical insurance coverage through the program at a low yearly fee. *CU Alumni will not be charged the document fee again if they have paid this in a previous program at Columbia.
HILI offers generous fellowships to many of our incoming students. HILI fellowships range in amount from 15%-50% of the yearly tuition rate. Fellowships decisions are based on merit and need. If you would like to apply for a HILI fellowship and wish to receive our optional need-based questionnaire, please contact us at [email protected]. Please note that admission to the HILI program is need-blind.
All HILI students are eligible for archival research stipends and conference funding during the program.

If you anticipate difficulty with your finances at any time – late receipt of loans, etc.— you are strongly advised to provide a relative or friend in the U.S. with the necessary power of attorney to endorse bank loan checks and other items for deposit. Do not wait until one or two weeks before you go to Paris to make sure that your finances are in order. Check with your Financial Aid Officer now to guarantee that you will meet tuition payment deadlines.
